policy_applicant Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 Who else will be there in the fall? I'm going to send my deposit in tomorrow. Will I see any other grad cafers come August?
younglions Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 Hey policy_applicant - Congratulations on coming to a decision--I'm sure you won't regret the choice. GPPI is a good school with great internship and career opportunities.
pandacamel Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 Hi policy_applicant. I'll be coming as well, and am very excited. I've sent you a PM about some deposit/acceptance questions you might be able to help me with. See you in the fall - I'm excited to be in D.C., as I have not spent much time there.
RyeGuy5555 Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 I'll be there too! It was a really difficult decision between GPPI, Michigan, and Duke but at the end of the day I really wanted to be able to study in DC to beef up my resume. Despite the rather unsatisfying admissions process, after talking to several current students and alums it seems like everyone pretty much loves the program.
linden Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 I have accepted GPPI's offer, too. Does anyone know what happens now? Do we have to register for classes? Fill out any additional paperwork? Pay tuition? After all these months of applications and waiting and emails, I feel I should be doing something.
mpp2011 Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 I'm still deciding but will probably attend GPPI. As a non-believer I'm slightly concerned about the university's religious ties. I can't imagine this would have much bearing on my experience at GPPI, but is this something I should be concerned about?

Oh no, I know several Jews/Agnostics/Athiests that have attended Georgetown and they certainly didn't mention noticing any kind of religious pressure. There are definitely religious symbols around campus but I believe Georgetown's Catholic affiliation has little or no bearing on the academic and social experiences of most of the students who attend the school.
policy_applicant Posted April 20, 2009 Author Posted April 20, 2009 I'm still deciding but will probably attend GPPI. As a non-believer I'm slightly concerned about the university's religious ties. I can't imagine this would have much bearing on my experience at GPPI, but is this something I should be concerned about? This was addressed at the visit day, and the students confirmed that religious ties within GPPI are non-existent. For catholics, opportunities to be involved in on-campus religious life are there, but for others, it doesn't seem like it will be an issue. I am also a non-believer and attended catholic high school and undergrad without any issues. Also, in response to RyeGuy's comment, since the Car Barn building is not owned by Georgetown (just leased), there are no crucifixes in the classrooms like there are in all on-campus classrooms.
traveler06 Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 I've decided to attend GPPI too! Uh oh policy_applicant, linden... looks like all us s**t-disturbers are going to be in one place!!

dagger Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 I feel left out. I think I would've gone with a 10k offer.

linden Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Is anyone else slightly worried with the cost to obtain this degree? Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.
akarjeker Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Hi everyone, My name's Alex and I'll be attending GPPI this fall. Got my acceptance back in March; scholarship letter this past Friday ($10k). I just found this forum and it seems like I missed out on all the drama! Gotta say, I've had similar thoughts as everyone else concerning the Admissions emails and general correspondence with the program. And speaking of which, has anyone gotten the official award letter (snail mail version)? I'm trying to apply for something and I need to know what the name of the general merit scholarship is. Does anyone have it? Thanks and I look forward to meeting y'all (yes that's a "y'all"- I'm from Texas )in the Fall.

Sorry for the false hope. I'm just not financially able to attend. Love the school though. There's a possibility I'll be working in DC this summer so maybe we'll cross paths
linden Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 dagger: Michigan is a great policy school, and the university also has a solid name. Good luck!
mpp.applicant Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Hello all, I'll be attending GPPI this fall too! I've been lurking on gradcafe for a while now (and while I was waiting for decisions it definitely made me feel a bit less crazy to see everyone else freaking out too ). I'm excited to find others who will be in the program. Does anyone know if there is a facebook group or anything like that for our entering class? Where are you all coming from? I am in Boston but I'm really looking forward to moving to D.C.

student4life Posted May 16, 2009 Posted May 16, 2009 Congratulations everyone! I'll be an official GPPI student in the fall as well. I must say I'm with you with the admissions hassles.
gppibound Posted June 11, 2009 Posted June 11, 2009 Hello future classmates! Anyone else out there concerned by some of the messages and pictures that our future classmates are posting of themselves on the GPPI Facebook page? Some of the postings/images might be a bit immature. I was especially worried about this response to the happy hour: "The last time I was at Garrett's I had to be carried out by the paramedics. Not even kidding. And I'm kinda afraid to go back!". I cannot believe a future student wrote that in a forum that could be read by profs/administrators/career services folks!!!! Has anyone met any GPPI alums? Do they show more judgment than some of these individuals? I am paying a lot of money for this degree and I am worried about the quality of professional contacts I will be able to make while in the program.
mpp_hopeful Posted July 4, 2009 Posted July 4, 2009 Wow. I haven't been on these forums in months, but thought I'd chime in and add that I'll be at GPPI in the fall. Has anyone else started thinking about what track they are interested in?
