I have received admits from GaTech for fall 14, and from CMU for spring 15, and I'm confused about which one to choose. I wanna specialize in Embedded Systems/Comp Arch. The coursework in CMU looks very attractive and it offers a more practical/project oriented approach in comparison to the courses at GaTech. Moreover, there are limited options to choose from in GaTech, to specialize in Embedded Systems. So course wise, CMU >> gatech.

But since I have a spring admit, I won't be able to get an internship after the Spring semester, which, I'm afraid, might affect my job prospects ( plus, I don't have any work experience ). So in this case, GaTech>CMU.

With respect to the cost, I guess I can afford both of them.

Both options with their pros and cons look equally good, and bad.

Please give me your opinions! Especially about joining CMU in Spring.

Georgia Tech hands down, even if you were admitted for Fall 2014. You will have better opportunities for an internship and work after graduation.

Thank you guys. And if I join CMU next Spring and if I don't do an internship, will it affect my chances of getting a good job? As I said, the courses offered in Embedded Systems at CMU are far better than those at GaTech, which is preventing me from saying no to CMU.  :(

Please throw some light on it!

Of course. Employers want to see work experience in the US, which you don't seem to have yet. The program at CMU will not define the rest of your life, but your ability to get an internship and then job will enable you to continue in your field after Georgia Tech.

I am also in a similar situation and am very confused.

The problem with georgia tech is that embedded systems is almost non-existent at georgia tech in terms of the coursework. Consequently, the placements are bad for embedded systems students.

Vlsi and comp arch are doing well as far as I know.

Any senior could throw more light on the employment prospects of Georgia tech Fall v/s CMU Spring for embedded systems please?
