Macrina Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 I have a few ideas and interests for a potential doctorate, and I think I know something about the direction I'm going in. But I need to narrow my focus and make it appealing to specific POIs. Any tips on how to do this most effectively? Are there specific questions I should be asking myself (or POIs) that will help? I'm in the humanities, specifically religious history.
bsharpe269 Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Well I am in the sciences but from what I have noticed, it is actually better to keep interests slightly broad. For example, if I narrow to the point where only a couple people could advise me then that is a problem. It is better to speak a bit more broadly, like I want to study these kinds of topics. Then you could be appealing to a couple different POIs at a school who could combine their interests with yours.
