Fordham IPED 2014

Anyone else waiting to hear back? The FAQ says "Admission decisions are usually made around mid-March and notifications sent out by email as well as regular mail soon after." which isn't entirely helpful. good luck to all.

Still waiting! I called the admissions department on Thursday and they said all applicants can expect to hear back this coming week.

Still waiting, too! Has anyone heard much about how heavily Fordham's IPED program weighs GRE scores? Mine were kinda low, but my GPA and other areas were quite strong. Just wondering, good luck all!

I think they count them heavily for fellowships but according to their admin dept, your overall package is more important for admission.

I too am waiting to hear... called last week and was told the admission decisions were sent out on a rolling basis, but that I would be hearing from them by the end of this week. Emailed this week and was sent a generic email saying that notifications would be sent out "in the next few weeks"...

 

So fed up with myself cos i can't seem to stop checking and rechecking my emails and spam! I just want to know what the heck is the hold-up - what with so many people on here having already posted their status for Fall 2014... This is my top choice but at this point I have to say that the relief of knowing way outweighs what the decision will actually be...

I'm not going to attend but I too was waitlisted for funding, and even though I already declined, I received an email today stating that funding decisions for those waitlisted for $ would be notified on/before/around April 15. I'm guessing that's when decisions are due for those who received scholarships and fellowships. Hope that helps so you're not just waiting around wondering when you'll find out!

 

Now I realize you posted this on the 20th and might already have the info you need but maybe it will help someone else!

Also I got into Sipa and am trying to decide between these two, funding will definitely make a difference.

 

So which school are you attending? 

I'm not going to attend but I too was waitlisted for funding, and even though I already declined, I received an email today stating that funding decisions for those waitlisted for $ would be notified on/before/around April 15. Congrats on SIPA! That seems to be an excellent program! Where else did you apply?

 

SIPA didn't give me a dime (oh, except for $4000/yr in work study, haha) so it was between SAIS and MSPP and I am going with MSPP. Their program seems to better align with my interests and they made my decision even easier by offering me a better financial package than SAIS.

 

Keep us posted where you end up!

 I just applied for sipa, iped, cipa at cornell (WL) and Rutgers mpp (not a word yet). 

 

you seem to have such a great result! do you have any work experience and what area will you concentrate on in the future ?

I got in to - but i'm a bit surprised. I took the program to be comparatively weak to CIPA, SIPA, Georgetown, etc.. It was my safety.

Was I severely mistaken by the rankings? Or are they just slow to get back to applicants and have very little funding?

@joyma - Thank you! I was actually really surprised -- I think I got lucky more than anything. My work experience includes a year in Latin America (I taught EFL for 6 months and traveled for 6 months) and then I did (well, I have a few months left) Peace Corps in East Asia. I'm planning on focusing on international economic development and policy analysis. That's why I eventually decided on MSPP. It has a strong quant focus within ID policy. I wish you much, much luck with a good funding offer from both IPED and SIPA!

 

@paladin_av - I actually thought the same thing! When I talked to the IPED admissions dept, they told me most of their students get a decent amount of funding so I was surprised to see on here so many people being WL for funding or outright denied funding, when they got funding offers from other schools that are (sometimes) ranked higher or generally thought of as having a stronger reputation.

I was wondering about lack of funding too - but I'm beginning to suspect it's a matter of a) it's a really small program (like 25 people) and b ) huge numbers of returned peace corps volunteers apply for it because they have a special full ride scholarship just for us. It's one of the few public/government affairs Coverdells that cover the whole shebang.

Thanks for the information! Now I understand why it seems so little funding ...

But i got a small question remained. In another program, I was awarded “ in the amount of 50% of your total tuition. This tuition scholarship can only be applied towards your tuition charges, providing you are enrolled for 18 course credits in the 2014-15 academic year.”

 

But only 30 credits are required to get this degree, of which half should be 15....so I am a bit confused...any ideas?
