liuox Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Hello, I am from China and I got admitted to UT Austin's Advertising & Public Relations Master's Program, Boston University's Communication Studies program and Depaul's Ad & Public Relations' Program. I have a hard time choosing between the three. There are many things to consider when deciding which one to go. I heard as far as job opportunities concern, Boston and Chicago have a lot more opportunities, however, Austin's advertising program ranks No. 1 in the nation (I think..) UT is much cheaper than BU obviously, and Depaul is cheaper too, but as far as ranking goes, Depaul ranks much lower than both schools. I am afraid that the academic intensity and selectivity are not as high as the other two. In China, Boston University has a greater reputation and all my friends and colleagues know BU and recommend me to go, however I see BU admits a lot of Chinese students these years, and I cannot help but wonder if they we are the source of funding for them... Please, if you have any ideas, or heard/attended those programs, I would love to hear your suggestions and advice. Thank you
shineedores Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 I don't know much about ur field but I did my undergrad in the states so i guess i can share some experience... If your goal is to get a job after graduation, choose the one with strong connections to the industry. Look at the placement rates of each program. Sometimes ranking is not that important if the location is good. Hope it helps.
liuox Posted March 19, 2014 Author Posted March 19, 2014 Yes! People have told me that ranking is less important than the location. but it is still hard for me to choose one program for the sake of location and disregard ranking...I don't know...still debating....
