rubijoy Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 I was recently accepted to several master's speech language pathology programs: University of Maryland, La Salle, and William Paterson. I am still waiting to hear back from several more, including Temple, SUNY New Paltz, and Montclair. I know UMD is a top program, but I'm wondering whether or not it's worth it to go there due to the high costs, and also due to the fact that all programs basically have the same required coarseload due to ASHA accredidation standards. Does anyone have any suggestions? If anyone attends any one of the programs I was accepted into/am waiting to hear back from, would you be willing to share some of your experiences? Thank you!
lisa19 Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Not applying to any of your schools, but one of the main differences between the two schools I've been accepted to is the courseload so I wouldn't assume all programs have the same. Some programs require more classes than what ASHA requires.
mheroux92 Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Something to consider is what you want to specialize in and what their clinical opportunities are for you. Some places have only two or three easily accessible externship opportunities, some have a special opportunity for more medical, some more school, etc. It is important to consider that they have the opportunity to easily/maybe more difficult-help you get your 375 hours.
