Lilocat Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Hi, everyone! I am having a dilemma for choosing between MS in biostatistics at Harvard University and PhD at Ohio State University. Harvard ranks top 1 in biostatistics. OSU ranks 27 but it offers me fellowship and PhD degree. I would like to work in industry after graduation. I have heard that most of biostatisticians holds PhD degree. If this is the case, choosing Harvard would means an extra 2 years of study and extra tuition cost. I am not sure if it worth it. I also don't know what kind of job could a student with Harvard MS degree get in the field of biostatistics. I really need to hear you about which offer should I take, any information about this two program will be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot!!!
kcyc Posted March 19, 2014 Posted March 19, 2014 How long does the PhD take? If you have money for tuition I would choose Harvard. You can graduate in 2 years and go off making money (PhD is 4-6 years?). Also 1st place vs 27th is a bit of a distance. But if biostatician must hold a PhD for a decent job, then OSU. If master is acceptable, choose Harvard.
