A little background...

I did a skype interview with a program a little under two weeks ago. I was accepted the next day, and then went down for a campus visit four days later. Here we are one week after my campus visit (1 week 4 days since my admission) and the program called me wanting me to inform them of a decision. I am favoring this school as my number one choice, but feel a little miffed they want me to decide so early. I haven't even gotten the official letter in the mail yet. I understand they don't want me to string them along, but I'm not quite comfortable accepting yet.

What do I do?

I guess I should also inform you guys that they called and left me a voicemail (I was in class; couldn't pick up the phone), and I feel like I need to acknowledge their call, but I'm not ready to commit to them. I do see myself there, it's just such a huge decision to actually accept the offer of admission. Scary too. lol

I think the best course of action would be honesty. Let them know they're your top choice but you want to hear back from other schools so you can make a more informed decision.

If it's your first choice (did you tell them that?) then why not say yes? Some programs won't make an offer until they see if you really want to be a part of their program. If not, they can also rescind the offer (I know it would be unofficial since you didn't get an official offer in the first place).

Don't know why they're pestering you unless they're trying to figure out what to do with other students based on your response.

If you need a little more time, I would let them know, don't blow them off.

Vityaz, it's no so much that I'm waiting on other schools (though I am still waitlisted by my previous first choice), it's just that it's such a huge decision.

warprin, I haven't told them they are who I am seriously considering accepting, but I was under the impression that I've been officially offered admission, and that my letter should be coming soon. I think I will end up there, and as days pass I get more and more excited about it. It's just such a huge decision (and I'm horrible with decisions), and I'd feel comfortable with just a little more time. I'm not talking weeks, just maybe a little under one more week.

Plus, I like having the official offer in my hand before I make decisions... makes it seem more real.

Just call back and say you'd like another week to think it over. If they're reasonable people, they should understand. (If not....well, that's a separate problem! :D)
