Hello!  My name is, as plainly stated, Jordan.  This is my first post at TheGradeCafe forums and after perusing the website I think it'll be a place I can enjoy.  If you want to avoid my story, just stop reading here, but I just wanted to take an opportunity to type Hello to everyone.  ^^;

I'm registering at the forums, here, because I plan on enrolling in my city's college for a Bachelor of Arts in Economics.  I won't be enrolling until the fall semester of 2015, unfortunately.  I'd like to be able to use this website to help prepare me for the challenges ahead by talking with members who may be in a similar situation as I, helping select some books that'll help me before I even get in to college, and also just meet some new people.  Here is my story, hope you like it.  Haha.

I'm currently a 26 year old husband to a loving wife and father of two beautiful children.  I have all the things I think most people are striving for; we own our car, we're buying our house, and we've saved already a considerable amount of money for our children's college fund, and we're even thinking of adding another child to our family.  I have worked hard to get the things in my life that I want, and because of my actions in my youth I've had to work even harder.  I quit highschool when I was 15...  something I regret every day of my life, now.  In order for me to enroll in college at this point in my life, I have to pay for expensive educational upgrades, and save at least 2 years of tuition before I even get to school in the fall of 2015.  I have recognized the road ahead of me, and my family is on board.  Which is a great thing!

This fall semester I will be trying to hack through my English 30-1, so I'm currently looking on some home study guides to help me get to the level I require to pass this course without any prerequisites.  After speaking with an old teacher of mine about this concept last year, they told me I'd most likely be able to handle the English 30-1.  After this semester, assuming I pass the English 30-1, I will be enrolling in Spring 2015 for my Mathematics 20-1.  I've been reading pre-calculus textbooks to help familiarize myself with the Mathematics 10 coursework, so I can semi home-school myself into preparedness for the Math 20-1.  Hopefully I pass this course as well and will be enrolling at the College as a student in Open Studies (This will be my first year of my Bachelors in Economics) so I can achieve my 30-1 through the college in my first year.  Then, I will finish my second year at the college, and hopefully find an acceptance at either Edmonton or Calgary following Economics!

I'm hoping to find other undergraduates in Economics, who can submit some advice or just chat with me.  I'm always looking to make new friends.  I hope you enjoyed the read and that my grammar wasn't too terrible.  Thanks for your time and see you around on the forums.

Welcome, Jordan!

First of all, good for you for getting back into the education... game. Or whatever you call it. There are definitely obstacles you're going to face that a "regular student" would not have to deal with. But this kind of experience makes you a unique candidate when applying to school! And it's wonderful to hear that your family supports the decision.

This forum is primarily a resource for students interested in graduate schools. This includes current undergrads who are applying, current grads, and I've even seen a few posts from faculty on here! It has a lot of resources available for students, and you mentioned than you've already checked out some of the posts, which is good. Besides, any one of us applying to graduate school must've completed our undergrad education (to the best of my knowledge). So I agree this forum could be helpful to you, and that you should ask around if you have any questions! :)

Again, welcome, and I hope this forum is helpful to you!
