foolish.nostalgia Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Hey all, I have just been accepted to a funded masters program at UMASS Boston. I've gotten 100% tuition waiver, which just leaves me with paying the program fees. Which is great and all, but it looks like I'll still be paying around $10,000/year in just program fees. This seems a little bit excessive to me and I'm wondering if I'm just mis-reading the funding letter I have been sent. I don't want to seem ungrateful for the money being offered, but I do want to know if this sort of thing is normal.
TheGirlWhoLived Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 That sounds really weird to me. From the schools I went to, it sounded like it would be more like $1200 a year in fees. I would ask them about this.
Josh70 Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 That sounds very high to me as well. At my school fees are maybe like $1,000 a year at most I think. Doesn't sound normal to me.
foolish.nostalgia Posted March 28, 2014 Author Posted March 28, 2014 I asked about it and did a little digging and it looks like this is just a Massachusetts thing, where all the public schools have really low tuition costs but super high program fees. It's still a good program and the $10,000/ year is still significantly lower than the other (completely unfunded) programs I have been accepted into. But it is still a very weird situation.
