Guest Gnome Chomsky Posted April 2, 2014 Posted April 2, 2014 Just curious where you all have been hiding. I've been on this site for years and have made multiple threads calling comp linguists and have only ever met one person on here. I see there have been 11 new results posted in the Results Search in the past few days. Prior to that there had only ever been 3 posts total. There have to be some of you out here. Unless people just post on the results and never check the forums.
PhDerp Posted April 9, 2014 Posted April 9, 2014 I've seen quite a few posts on it. I'm one! (Kinda.) I think some people refer to "computational linguistics" as the study of linguistics using probability and computer science, whereas others treat it as an umbrella term for anything language-related in computing. I used to say I want to study "computational linguistics" when I always meant the latter; now I don't call it that. I'm interested in things like NLP and speech processing. These days, I think of these as AI and ML, not "computational linguistics".
