mh629 Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 I was just wondering what everyone's thoughts were on these programs? I am trying to decide between the three and can't decide whether TC and NYU are worth the money. I know I want to do medical speech pathology and both NYU and TC have classes that specialize in that area, however I don't have as much info on hunter and their placements etc. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
GiancaD Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Hey! I just attended the accepted students event at NYU for incoming SLP grad students (maybe you were there too & we just crossed paths without realizing it)! It's actually been my only acceptance thus far but that's okay because it's been my top choice since the beginning of this year. The reason for that is because they have several professors who specialize in care and maintenance of the professional voice for singers, actors, & public speakers and voice therapy for both the professional voice user as well as the everyday person. It's tough to find even a single professor with that area of speciality in most programs and NYU has two or three, which is a huge draw for me. My tour guide who took me to see their clinic & facilities during the event last week also informed me that one of the strengths of their program is the availability of hospital placements. I got the impression from Columbia that their program has a strong neuro focus as well as language acquisition and the training of bilingual speech pathologists. As far as CUNY Hunter is concerned, I applied there without doing too much research on the strengths or weaknesses of their program. I think I may have underestimated the school's popularity, seeing as how it's a more cost-effective alternative to NYU or Columbia while still being in Manhattan. slpwest 1
