Does the size and prestige of the university at which you do your Master's make much of a difference if you go on to apply for a PhD program later on?

I have my heart set on a small and primarily undergraduate university, and would love to complete my MA in English Literature there. However, the university does not offer any PhD programs. If I want to pursue further studies after my MA (with the ideal end-goal of becoming a professor), is it undesirable to do my MA at a small university? Would it hurt my chances to get into a PhD program at a larger institution afterwards?

Thanks.

Generally speaking, the prestige of your M.A. institution isn't as important. I would definitely check in with them to ask about how they prepare students for PhD programs and the kinds of schools their students are admitted to. Good luck!
