billrach Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 I have an undergrad business degree, and I'm interested in getting into an MS in Computer Science program. Just wondering, how are online undergraduate CS courses viewed by admission committees? Online courses would be more doable for me since I work full time. My other option is to take some classes at my local school, but that can be hard to balance with work. Just to be clear, I'm talking about online courses that are through an accredited universities not a coursera/udacity type course.
PhDerp Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 If the course would've counted on your transcript as an undergrad, it probably would have similar weight if you took it outside of school, though I have no personal experience with this. If nothing else, you can put some code up on your github or something to show what you can do. Applications ask for resumes. People in CS put their github accounts on their resumes, if they have one. In particular, it's helpful to have a "completed" program under your belt. Good luck!
