Already made a decision, wanting to change it-PLEASE HELP

So I got into a Social Welfare program a month or so ago at a school for a Masters in Social Work, and I accepted the offer of admission.  I have since been seriously considering Educational Psychology, and found out that the program I was looking at is still accepting applications.  The problem is that the two programs are in the same school, just different departments.  If I apply for this other program, will it be frowned upon due to my already accepting an offer from another department?  Will this hurt my reputation in the school?  Can I even get out of the social work program after accepting the offer?  If anyone can help, I would appreciate it so much.  Thanks.

Is the offer funded? Either way, it is possible to decline your offer of admission to the program. The program may just be more annoyed if it was a funded spot. You are actually doing the program a favor though if you don't want to get your degree in Social Work anymore. It's better to drop the program now than decide once you have already started. You would be wasting both the program's time and your time. I think they would understand if your dropped the program because you had a change of heart. I wouldn't think you need to tell them you are applying for another program. 

The only thing I could see hurting you would be the fact that you sound like you don't know what you want. If the psych program some how knew about this (which I don't think they would), it could hurt your application.

I wouldnt go anywhere near doing this. At best, it shows you have no idea what you want to study. You will possibly be interacting with people in the other department and this would possibly put you automatically on bad terms with people.

 

It sounds like you arent really positive what you want to study and I think it is a bad idea to spend your money on either program until you figure out exactly waht you want to do. I think it would be a better idea to work for a while, save up money for grad school, and figure out exactly what you want. Otherwise, you could end up being one of those people who keeps changing their mind about their studies, has multiple masters degrees, and is 100-200k in debt.
