bz316 Posted May 2, 2014 Posted May 2, 2014 Well, super excited to be starting at UMass Amherst this fall and get my Masters in Mechanical Engineering. But wouldn't you know it, the info othe school sent me on student housing got sent to my spam folder and I missed my shot at on-campus housing (they're all full up now). The school tells me that they are reexamining the number of spots they have in graduate student housing in several weeks. Any UMass students out there who know how likely it is that they'll find new space, or has anyone else managed to get student housing after they do their second check in June? Or am I completely screwed on this one?
PhDerp Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 (edited) Not sure about the likelihood. Undergrad housing can be hard to get late. People camp out by the housing office to be first in line for applications when they don't get in. But it's really easy to live off-campus in the area. There's an extensive bus system (http://www.pvta.com/schedules.php has UMass/Amherst routes specifically) and there are apartment complexes as well as houses renting out rooms all around Amherst, and in neighboring towns. Check out the western Mass craigslist (http://westernmass.craigslist.org/) and the UMass off-campus housing website (http://www.umocss.org/). EDIT: And, of course, good luck! Enjoy your time at UMass. Feel free to hit me up if you have any questions! Edited May 3, 2014 by PhDerp
