Should I take the TOEFL if I completed the AS Levels in English as a high school student

I am an Indian undergraduate in Chemistry and I completed the AS levels in English with an A grade in high school 5 years back, and I will soon be applying to schools for phD programs. English was not a "foreign language" but a first language. Will I need the TOEFL while applying? I am not sure if this will be relevant, but I came first all over India in the English AS levels of '09.

Some schools might still require you to take the TOEFL. I would email to ask. Anecdotally speaking, my cousin, though born abroad, spent 15 years of her life living in the U.S. and graduated from an American international high school. She still had to take the TOEFL for some schools.
