Venkata Tilak Uppalapati Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Hi, This is Venkata Tilak Uppalapati, from India got admission for PhD in Structural Engineering from the University of South Carolina with out scholarship. I am here to inquire about the funding opportunities like will they provide funding ?Moreover for assistance I would like to know What is the percentage of getting funding for PhD students who didn't get funding initially?
hj2012 Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Hi there, I don't know specifically about South Carolina, but I'm doing some work as an admissions consultant and our (admittedly limited) data shows that students who are offered tuition remissions are much more likely to receive paid stipends down the road. If you're literally getting nada (expected to pay tuition as well) then I would be very wary. The best place to ask this kind of question, though, is the department itself. Email the DGS or a secretary and ask, or email some grad students in the department. This will vary wildly depending on the school. Good luck!
