LuxAurorae Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 (edited) Now that we've all heard back from schools and made our decisions, I was wondering if there is anyone who is from NY and is choosing to go to grad school out of state. If you did, are you planning to go back to NY right away or are you okay with being out of state for an additional 2 years after your program? If you chose to go, what were your reasons? I've heard horror stories about getting the tssld in NY and was hoping it was unfounded! Edited June 9, 2014 by LuxAurorae
daisynic Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 I will be going to grad school out of state, but I am not too concerned because I have my initial TSSLD certificate from my undergraduate program. One of my professors from NY got her masters from the same school I am going to, and she said it is just a lot of paperwork - keep organized, and it should be okay. I think it's just important to keep all of your coursework information and syllabi, as well as contact information from professors and supervisors. When my professor filled out the paperwork, she needed them to sign off on certain things. A friend of mine just completed her masters in Florida and is back in NY now. She is still working out the details but told me not to stress as well.
LuxAurorae Posted June 12, 2014 Author Posted June 12, 2014 (edited) That is such a relief to hear! Do you know if your friend from Florida is working or planning to work with kids or adults? Thanks so much! Edited June 12, 2014 by LuxAurorae
goingtobeslp13 Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 A good friend of mine is in graduate school in Boston, but plans to do her CF in NY in order to get the TSSLD certification here. She also has been keeping track of all her syllabi/hours and talked with her advisor about her plans to ensure that she meets the NY requirements.
tlsstc Posted June 18, 2014 Posted June 18, 2014 I am out of state right now (UNC Chapel Hill) and I will probably do my CFY in NC and then go back to NYC. If you want to do CFY year in NY, you just can't work in a school/educational setting, but you could do early intervention or a hospital placement. The NY state education dept website has info on certification - I can't seem to copy & paste the link but if you google "NYSED tssld pathway" you should be able to find it.
