Hi everyone!

I’ve been admitted to the MPhil in International Relations at Oxford and to the Master in International Affairs at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva. Since I’d probably like to work for an international organization, maybe the UN, in the future, I’m inclined to go for the MIA at IHEID, which is also financially attractive. Moreover, it might be an opportunity to improve my French. However, the sheer prestige and academic quality of Oxford are of course also very attractive.

Therefore, could anyone who is following/has done either of these programmes answer some of the following questions:

IHEID:

  • Does it really offer many opportunities for internships, and getting a foot in the door with international organisations? Does it also teach you practical skills?
  •  What is the quality of the education like? And does studying at IHEID really offer a good opportunity to learn French?
  • What kind of careers do graduates from IHEID, specifically the MIA, usually engage in? Is it easy to find a job afterwards?

Oxford MPhil IR:

  • What kind of careers do graduates usually have after completing the MPhil? Is it easy to find a job afterwards?
  • Is it possible to do an internship during the summer, or are students generally to busy gathering information in preparation for their thesis?

I know it's a lot of questions, but I'd be very grateful to anyone who is able to give me some advice or more information regarding these programmes! :)
