Francophile1 Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 I am in an MA program now and will be asking for recommendations in another field (teaching fellowship, teaching certification). I was wondering if you guys think it would be wise to get a recommendation from a Professor that I got an incomplete with and then turned in the work and got a good grade? In my department you can get an incomplete and then it is just changed into a grade when you turn in your work. Any thoughts?
Dedi Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 It depends on the circumstances. I asked for a rec letter from a professor that I got an Incomplete from and later got an A in the course. The reason I got an Incomplete was because the course was an Independent research project and it took longer than than a semester to finish everything. If you just didn't do the work until the very end, that might say something different.
bsharpe269 Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Do you think this professor thinks highly of you? Would he consider you one his top students?
hj2012 Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Do you think this professor thinks highly of you? Would he consider you one his top students? This is the most important factor. If the professor thinks highly of you, then I don't think the "I" matters quite as much. But if the "I" is a sign that you were not one of the top students in the class, then I'd consider asking someone else.
