celph Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 Hello, I have a question. When applying for graduate school, obviously they need your transcripts from the undergraduate institution you attended. Now, if you don't want to wait for a year doing nothing, you usually send in the information on the courses you've taken so far, and it is assumed that you will finish the rest in time. But, what if you don't, and your university refuses to give you a degree? You're basically screwed, I assume? Thanks in advance
reallywantcolumbia Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 you need to send in a (signed and sealed) preliminary transcript from the registrar's office at your undergraduate institution. It's an official transcript -- just not complete. but if you don't get the final degree -- you're screwed. The contract you sign with the university is almost always contingent on you having that degree in hand. If the degree is just delayed for administrative reasons (e.g. you handed in work late and it took some time for the university to process the degree), you should probably be able to negotiate that with your graduate institution. Otherwise I'm afraid you're pretty much screwed.
