Advice on writing a research statement

Hi All,

 

I am currently focused on finishing up my research statement prior to writing my statement of purpose. I am curious to know the best format for writing a research statement for biological sciences-related research to apply for PhD programs (specifically immunology). It would help if you could provide some overall tips for each paragraph - what to mention initially (i.e. Major questions in the field and how you set out to answer them? The overall theme of your research so far?) and how to proceed to/the basis of further paragraphs, including tips for things that one should avoid.
