Francophile1 Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Hello, I am researching now few options on what to do after my MA, and am considering taking a break and working as an adjunct. What I want to find out is other people's advice on applying for such jobs, so please respond to the following questions if you can! 1. Can I apply to these positions BEFORE getting my MA? Most job posts seem to want transcripts, and I assume this is with the conferred degree and I am just wondering whether I should apply before actually getting conferred, or wait till after. 2. When is it usually advisable to start applying for fall? In the spring or summer? 3. And finally is there more of a chance of getting adjunct jobs in community colleges rather than 4 year schools? Thanks
TakeruK Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 I can only answer the first question and the answer is yes, you can usually apply to jobs that require a <whatever degree> before you actually have that degree as long as you will have it by the time the job begins. Of course, someone who has already finished a <whatever degree> might be more appealing to the employer because your own transcript would still be incomplete, but you can definitely still apply and see. I know plenty of people who apply to jobs partway through their PhD because they were not fully decided on continuing their grad program or leaving early with a different job.
