I was discussing a few admissions things with a friend over email. It was informal where things such as "should i do this" for application type of things that can be frowned upon by admissions were being chatted. I was sending this to a friend but stupidly there was the admissions email address that was included in one of the Address fields and I didn't notice it!!

It must have gotten copied as I was browsing through my emails. All this got sent to the admissions email address that is for admissions related questions.

What should I do? I am in a panic for doing something so stupid!!!?!!  :( :( I got an automated reply from the email address and the admissions staff will look at the email. Have I doomed my chance before applying!!?

  :(

edit: it has all my identifying info, name, address etc. I know it's stupid but panic is because there is some content that can be seen as inappropriate about the program and comparing the program unfavorably to another program

Stop stressing out. I actually read a similar post on here a couple months ago so this sort of thing happens. Send a second email on the same email thread and say something like "The previous email was sent by mistake. Please disregard all content. I applogize for any inconvenice that this may have caused." This did not destroy your chance of admission and the secretary will proably just get a good laugh today!

Unless you actually send in an application that does something against the rules (falsifying information) than you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Admissions get emails from hundreds of potential applicants. I doubt they would miss a small folly. Most the decisions are up to the admissions committee and I doubt they would care either way about a small email. They will most likely just delete it.

Sending a second mail saying sorry-please-ignore may bring more attention to the mistake

Just not sure what can undo this. Pretty sure that if any admissions staff looks at it, it can come off as bad

Admissions staff are not the ones making admissions decisions. I understand graduate school is important to you, but you are overthinking this and blowing it out of proportion. Stay calm, send an apology email and continue with your application. Firstly, you have done nothing wrong really. Secondly, I'd doubt they have the time or interest to really put forth the effort to have the admissions committee blacklist you.

Just brush it off and continue with your application process as planned. It's the professional thing to do.
