Hi all,

I'm wondering about your experiences with both the Magoosh and Barron's online courses for the GRE.  I need to get as high of a verbal score as possible because of the programs I'm applying to.  Of course, I'd prefer not to get an abysmally low math score either, but the verbal score is the most important thing right now.

Would anyone on here be willing to share their insight with either of these programs?  I've taken the free practice questions on both sites and I'm still have trouble deciding.  Barron's definitely seems more cookie-cutter in their approach (blah), but Magoosh seems to be more math-focused (or at least, everyone I've read about who uses it is in a STEM field) so it's really hard to know just how good their verbal portion will be.

Any info about either would be great, thank you!!

Magoosh is the best by far for both Quant and Verbal. I have used their verbal, and it is really good.  Manhattan is good too.

By the free tests, do you mean the pdf versions that are available on their site? I haven't checked our Barron's so I don't know if they offer an online pdf you can download or an interactive test

Both have a trial period where you can access interactive questions and video lessons online.  The courses seem to be quite similar, though how similar is hard because you don't have access to much in the free version on either site.

I ended up signing up for Magoosh because I kept wasting time debating, but to be honest I think I like the explanations of the math portion on Barron's better.  They break it down for you more, because I honestly haven't done math for almost 10 years.  I have no clue what they're talking about. Luckily I've been taking the Your Teacher GRE courses on the iPhone as well (much cheaper on the iPhone!!) which breaks everything down and has been phenomenal.

We'll see. I may end up purchasing Barron's down the road as backup if I have the time and money, but right now the Magoosh verbal section seems to be good!
