Ankghost0912 Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Hi all, I'm a student from India(ITM University, Gurgaon). I have a GPA of 9.0/10.0 and a GRE score of 323(160-V,163-Q,4.0-AWA). I have done research in systems designing, embedded systems and cryptography. I just completed my internship at IIT Delhi where I developed a crypto-related product. In addition, I have made a PC controlled wireless robot, interfaced VGA with FPGAs etc and am currently developing a single chip microprocessor architecture. I want to ask all of you that given my profile, what do you think of my chances of getting into the top four of my list i.e. UC Berkeley, UIUC, Georgia Tech and Stanford(A little ambitious). Any help would be appreciated , but please don't give ambiguous answers. Thanks Ankit
Vene Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 I'd be surprised if your GRE was too low, your quantitative score is 87th percentile after all. 160 verbal is a good score from a native English speaker, so getting it as an Indian is great. If I was you I'd also look at the results page and do some research to see if any of the universities of interest have data available as to the stats of students from previous admissions cycles. Also, do keep in mind that your GRE is probably the least important aspect of your application so don't think that because yours is good compared to their standards that it means you'll get in.
Ankghost0912 Posted August 31, 2014 Author Posted August 31, 2014 Thanks Macchiato, As you said I downloaded all the previous admission statistics and ran a custom program(written by me) on it to predict the probability of my getting in. However the result (of the program) was ambiguous. The point is - will my being from a lesser known university hurt my chance?
Ankghost0912 Posted August 31, 2014 Author Posted August 31, 2014 Oh I'm sorry I misread your user name Thanks Vene
Vene Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 The point is - will my being from a lesser known university hurt my chance? It really shouldn't.
Ankghost0912 Posted August 31, 2014 Author Posted August 31, 2014 Thanks for relieving me! Now I can be more confident
victorydance Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 Thanks Macchiato, As you said I downloaded all the previous admission statistics and ran a custom program(written by me) on it to predict the probability of my getting in. However the result (of the program) was ambiguous. The point is - will my being from a lesser known university hurt my chance? The process is too random to quantify. Way too many variables. Honestly, coming from a relatively unknown undergrad doesn't really matter that much. What matters more is what you did there rather than where you came from.
billy30 Posted September 1, 2014 Posted September 1, 2014 Can anyone point me to a list (not necessarily ranking) of good programs on Computational Photography?
