I have just started the online MSW with St Leo. I am on the 3 year track as I work full time.

I am curious if anyone else on here has done their MSW program or other online degree?

I haven't completed one, but I am currently in my first year of the online MSW program at Edinboro in Pennsylvania.

I really like it, as I can do most of the school work when I have time.  I also work full-time so attending classes at a certain time would be a struggle for me.

How are you liking your program so far?

So far I'm liking it - we have a face to face online video chat type meeting once a week for one of the classes. The other is mostly lots of writing.

I will be talking to my liaison about field work placement next month which should be interesting because the place that I want to intern is not on their listing.

Does your program coordinate your field work assignments or is that up to you?

We have to coordinate our own, which to me is the worst part about the program.  I really love the program for the most part so far, but the field experience has been a nightmare.  If you are lucky enough to live in an area that has agencies with whom the university already has a contract, it might be a little easier, but most people have to find their own with really no help from the university.  Online programs in general seem to vary with this.  For instance I know that BU finds your internship for you.

My university is completely asynchronous, so we do not have video chats.  But we have a lot of discussion board conversations of the readings every week, and a lot of writing papers as well.

I'm thinking of applying to St. Leo's MSW program but am apprehensive.....

I'm about to wrap up the first year with the St Leo MSW online and it was tough.

There is now the internship / field practicum process. I will have work PRN at my current job (this is not what I was expecting at all) and will not get the internship assignment that I had hoped for.  Big disappointment.

This first internship begins at the end of August and I have nothing lined up.  It is still in process. I suppose my liaison has this down to a science but I find it a little frustrating.  Background checks, interviews, etc take time and the agency - where ever I do end up interning - has to have time to make their decisions. This just seems a little too down-to-the-wire for my comfort.

In the third year, the second practicum will be done. I will definitely be way ahead of the ball then - as I want to make sure that I intern in a field that I eventually work in later.
