najuzz Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Hi guys, I did some research on this but I haven't found a post that's close to my considerations. GRE Score: 163Q, 154V, AWA 4.5 I am an international so I wil have to take the Tofl, but I am not worried about that. My plan is to apply for an ECON Ph.D. preferably in Minneapolis, Madison or Ann Arbor. Minneapolis states the average Q at 166 and Madison at the 90% quantile (163=88% Quantile). Ann Arbor does not provide any information. I know I scored slightly below average. But that bothers me, even though I know an average has positive and negative deviations. I am doing my Masters in Statistics right now at the best university in Germany. My GPA there is a 4.0 I also got a Masters in Economics form Omaha (GPA:3.97) I do have reference letters from Omaha, Munich, and Maryland where I know a professor. However I did not publish any research yet, since this is not common in Europe. But I did reserach and wrote papers in seminars that I took. Should I mention them on m y application? Do you guys think that my slightly below quantitative score in GRE puts me at a (considerable) disadvantage. Thank you guys!
victorydance Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 I'd say your quant score is fine, even for economics ph.d. programs. I would be way more worried about your verbal.
bsharpe269 Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 I actually think the verbal is fine for Econ PhDs. Scores in the 150s are pretty normal for quant heavy phd programs and your writing score is good so I don't think they would be worried. You quant is fine too. I'd say that anything above 160 is good.
