neonEspresso Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Have any Americans in biomedical fields done postdocs in Europe? I have been told it is seen by some as a step backwards (since so many people go Europe --> US), but I would love to apply to postdocs there, especially Germany and UK. Do people have general advice on this matter? How is it different from postdocing in the US? I am currently working on a neuroscience PhD at a highly ranked institution in the US.
ss2player Posted September 9, 2014 Posted September 9, 2014 Was wondering this myself! I'd love to go to Karolinska or Max Planck, but would that hurt my career over an American post-doc at an R1?
Cookie Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 My boss strongly recommended me NOT to do a postdoc abroad because he said it would hurt my chances getting a TT job in the US. He said it's a simple 'out of sight, out of mind' thing.
