Reggi Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Hi all, I'm a newbie here and I was hoping I'll get some realistic input . I'm about to graduate with a degree in Finance with a 3.6 gpa. My hopes were always to attend a top grad school for an MBA, however now I'm thinking that my gpa won't be good enough. With a high gmat score, do you think I'll still have a chance? Any feedback will be appreciated.
samsarictraveler Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 You're gpa is higher then the average at Harvard. Depending on your GMAT and work experience, there is no reason you could not get into a top school.
cath2024 Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 For a top program, you probably need a few years of post-undergrad work experience.
Stories Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 More than anything else, you need real-world experience. I think the median age at most business MBA programs is around 27. The degree is really intended for someone who wishes to move up into the administration level of businesses. This is particularly true of executive MBA programs. Probably less so of other concentrations.
Reggi Posted May 26, 2009 Author Posted May 26, 2009 I do plan on working for the next year, and I already have a good year of internship experience in asset management. I always considered a BBA alone to be insufficient in Finance. Am I wrong? Any opinions?
Stories Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 An advanced degree will help you move up. But a MBA won't do it for you. Your skills will move you up in the business world much faster than any degree.
