OverCaffeinated Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 sad topic, but i was wondering if anyone had an OVERALL gpa of around 2-3 and where did u get accepted? would love to hear what your other stats were and i would assume, GREs and LOR were stellar.... my overall gpa MIGHT suck... because my courses i took in first year that have nothing to do with my major gpa are complete garbage. (my other scores are in signature) so was wondering who had luck where?
SpeechyK Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 In your statement of purpose, I would discuss your GPA. When I was applying transfer from community college to undergrad, I talked about how my GPA was 3.1, but the last 30 hours were 4.0. I know it's not the same exactly, but discussing how your grades were on an upswing (if they were) will help draw their attention to renewed focus on academics.
OverCaffeinated Posted September 21, 2014 Author Posted September 21, 2014 yeah i understand that. i want to hear from people with low gpas and which schools they got into

He also created a thread called less competitive grad programs. Look at the schools he applied to. I believed he got accepted to two: Jackson State and Grand Valley State University. He mentioned that he contacted schools to find out if they have accepted people with his kind of stats. He also mentioned schools that he believed just wanted his money. You can check that thread out.

Missthang Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Austin and Dallas are very competitive... I applied to all Texas schools and didn't even bother applying to either of them for this reason. I had a 3.3-3.4 cumulative GPA, major GPA of about 3.5 and last 60 hrs was about 3.8-3.9 (I may be a little off, but this is what I sort of remember from doing applications last year). Look at ASHA's EdFind or go to schools' websites and look up what the average GRE and GPA scores are for previously admitted cohort. You want to fall within their ranges to stand a fair chance of getting a second look instead of immediately being tossed if your scores and/or GPA don't stack up to what they're looking for.
Porter-Slp Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Missthang what grad school are you attending? I live in Texas and I'm applying to grad school for speech! Porter-Slp 1
