Which professor should I choose?

Hi guys,

 

I talked with the prof about my application and he seems very discouraging about it, and he told me my marks are not good enough etc. But he said he can write me a letter. Do you think I can use the letter from him? Or should I find someone else? Actually I'm a bit surprised that he would like to write for me.

Are you sure he will right a FAVORABLE letter?

Do ask him if he feels familiar enough with your work and aptitude as a student to write you a strong letter. You don't want his assessment of your mediocrity.

If he already told you he doesn't think you're a strong candidate, then why would you expect him to tell an admissions committee that you are a strong candidate?
