rohinimohan Posted June 6, 2009 Posted June 6, 2009 Hi, I'm an Indian student going to Columbia University's for a one-year MA in political journalism. I'll have to do some on-campus jobs to pay for my tuition. Does anyone know what kind of things I can do around campus on a student visa? And do I have to wait till I get to NY to find these jobs (I get there in late August. Program begins in Sept), or can I apply for them now? The univ people told me I will not be eligible for any assistantships because my Masters is only one year long. Do let me know how I should go about this!
cath2024 Posted June 7, 2009 Posted June 7, 2009 Call Columbia's fin aid dept and ask them these questions. On campus jobs are often reserved for people who were awarded work study. The fin aid dept can tell you for sure. Does your student visa allow you to work or not? If it does, get a job off campus once you get to NYC. If you can find one, it'll pay better than on campus work anyway.
