ARJS Posted October 27, 2014 Author Posted October 27, 2014 Which program have you applied for and on which date?
ghataty Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 (edited) EE program Edited October 27, 2014 by muhamedyusuf
ARJS Posted October 27, 2014 Author Posted October 27, 2014 I applied for PhD EE. I guess applicants in spring admission cycle are much lesser in number than in Fall admissions cycle. When I see the history of forums on this website discussing KAUST admissions, I found all of them were for Fall admission cycle.
ghataty Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 I guess the same too. But have you made academic interview yet?. If you see the research results you will find that an applicant in PHD EE made a faculty interview? and i dont know i have not received any invitation for an interview yet. seem that the application is declined. I know that in the EE there are a lot of labs. i wish to know how many applicant they are going to accept.
ARJS Posted October 27, 2014 Author Posted October 27, 2014 No I did not make to the academic interview yet. How did you find out that one applicant made to the faculty interview? How can you say that your application has been declined? Do not get disheartened I believe they conduct interview based on the day you submitted your application thats why I asked you on which date you submitted your application. As long as your VIP page says 'Registered/Waitlisted' there is hope. All the best...
ghataty Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 yes you can follow other applicants results through this link http://www.thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=KAUST I dont know about each applicant is interviewed according to his submission date. i submitted the application on 22/9, but it was completed on 27/9 and what about you ?
ARJS Posted October 28, 2014 Author Posted October 28, 2014 Ok thanks I submitted mine on 9 th October and it was completed on the same date. Thanks to prompt response from my recommenders. Much obliged.
blk Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 I submitted early September. This is my second attempt; the 2013 (first) interview was conducted in the second week of Nov, 2013. While the academic interview was conducted the following week. Decision was sent in the second week of December. Although, those accepted got the conformation between end of November and early week of December. ghataty 1
ARJS Posted November 3, 2014 Author Posted November 3, 2014 Thank you for sharing your experience. Are you applying for PhD? Did they contact you so far? What was interview like specially the academic one? I am still waiting for any decision / interview call. My VIP page says 'Registered / Waitlisted'. I don't know what waitlisted actually means. Any thoughts please? Asking many questions? I am desperate, may be...
blk Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Yes...I applied for PhD in Bioscience. Waitlisted, means you will be contacted for interview. The administrative interview (the first interview) normally ask the question, why you applied to kaust; if you have ever been to saudi Arabia; and your research interests, present and future. The academic interview ask you more about your previous research experience. And what you wish to achieve. ghataty 1
ARJS Posted November 3, 2014 Author Posted November 3, 2014 Ok Thanks for your input. Really appreciate it.

ARJS Posted November 11, 2014 Author Posted November 11, 2014 Interviewed today by POI. Went quite well. Looking forward to administrative interview. ghataty 1
ghataty Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 Dear ARJS, What do you meant by POI. In which field is your specialization?
ghataty Posted November 15, 2014 Posted November 15, 2014 And please if you could tell me what is the difference between the interview you did and the "administrative interview" ? ARJS 1
ARJS Posted November 15, 2014 Author Posted November 15, 2014 Dear ghataty POI = Professor Of Interest Interview with POI is the academic interview and is quite technical (may be not too much). On the other hand, administrative interview is done by representatives from HR, school administration (not necessarily from your school) and few faculty members (not necessarily from your school). Administrative interview, generally, is not technical, rather, they ask you about your research interests and career goals, reasons behind choosing KAUST etc... For administrative interview for KAUST you might have to fly to a certain country (like Turkey, China, USA, Singapore). But it can be on skype as well. If invited, travel and accommodation is provided by KAUST. I hope this answers your question. Please feel free to ask should there be any confusion or question. Regards ghataty 1
ghataty Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 in which field is your academic research experience?

ghataty Posted November 16, 2014 Posted November 16, 2014 i hope too to continue my studies in optoelectronics and specially quantum dots, photodetectors, .. you must contacted Prof. Khaled Salama
