Hope Alive Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 (edited) Hi All, Is it possible I get into any Geology schools with an Undegrad GPA - 2.8 (from Africa) and MS Geology - 3.3 (from a US state university). I have over 4 years work experience working in one of the US oil companies. I have presented the results of my thesis in poster format in the AAPG. I am also second author in a paper submitted to GSA (in print). I was a research scholar when I was in graduate school and I got several research scholarships. My research interests are in the areas of Diagenesis, Sedimentology, Petrology and Petroleum Geology. I am currently studying for the GRE and I hope to score high whenever I sit for the exam. Can you please recommend PhD schools that can accept me considering my GPA, research and work experience? I plan on talking to my company to fund me for the PhD so I may not need funding from the school. Thanks, - Hope Alive Edited October 22, 2014 by Hope Alive
GeoDUDE! Posted October 22, 2014 Posted October 22, 2014 Your going to have to work your magic with your company's funding. I suggest contacting your MS advisor, asking him what connections he has (or perhaps your company directly funds some professors you are interested in working with). Perhaps your research/ experience along with a stellar GRE can overcome your horrible grades (3.3 in MS is not very good at all, and of course 2.8 UG gpa is below the minimum for most graduate schools). good luck!
