Reapplying and GRE unofficial copy

Hello All,

 

I have few questions about GRE score.

One of the schools I want to apply requires "unofficial copy" of GRE score.

I took GRE few years ago, and I have a copy of scanned version that mailed in my home, but it contains some scores I don't want to send (subject test).

I heard that since this is unofficial, I can actually use print version of "My GRE", but then it shows bunch of schools I applied past few years.

Though this is my second time applying to this school, I don't want to show how many times I tried for other schools.

So should I just use scanned version as my unofficial copy? Or is it possible to get another copy of the GRE score?

 

Another question is that for some reason, my score percentages on scanned version and web version are different. Not sure why, but it's off 2-5%.

Which percentage should I use for application?

 

Also as I mentioned, this is not my first time applying for grad schools. I found that some schools I applied, even though I did not send my GRE score yet, it marked as "sent" from previous data.

I already contacted them if they can reset since it contains bad score, like subject test I don't want to send.

But here, it brings my question that when reapplying, do you use same email address or different? I am just worried if using the same email address carries previous information and make my application looks bad about reapplying multiple times.

 

Please help me on these three questions.

Here are my answers/thoughts:

 

1. I would print the score from the myGRE website as a PDF. Then I would use Acrobat or Photoshop or similar software and censor/block out all of the areas of the page with information that the school did not ask for. Remove things like the list of schools you sent scores to, and previous scores etc. I would make it very clear (draw ugly solid boxes or something) that these areas are being blocked.

 

2. The percentage scores change every year on July 1 and reflect performance of test takers in the past 3 years. For example, the current % scores shown are your scaled score (i.e. the number out of 800 or 170) relative to performance of GRE test takers from July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2014. If you wrote the GRE in 2012, then your % score reported back then would have been your % relative to test takers from July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2012, for example. I would report the most recent % because when you send your official score report, that's the number they will see.

 

3. This is up to you. Note also that many applications will ask you if you have applied to the school in the past. I would recommend telling the truth becaue I don't think it's very difficult for a computer system to match your name/info with a previous application. However, I honestly do not know if they actually do this or if they would care.

If you can use the "Inspect Element" option, such as the one in firefox, you can delete the table containing scores sent to universities, then print the page to PDF.
