mononcle Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 Hi! I am an Art History student beginning graduate studies this Fall. I honestly wish I had know about this site sooner because it would have helped me during the application process. I was denied acceptance to every university except Temple in Philadelphia. Besides the fact that it was depressing as hell, I figured it was okay because I had been accepted into a PhD program. I only applied to three MA programs and was denied acceptance, so it took me by surprise to be accepted to a PHD program. In any case, like a few other people I've read about here, I received a letter about a month ago from NYU asking me to apply to the Draper Program. I applied ( I figured, nothing ventured, plus there wasn't even an application fee) and was accepted. Now I am wondering if it is worth it to go ahead with the Draper Program, simply because it is in NYU and thus more prestigious than Temple. Then again, Temple is offering me a PhD which cuts my time in half. Does anyone have any advice? Anything to say about art history at Temple? Thanks, I'd appreciate any sort of advice or idea on the matter.
bob_the_muse Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 it really depends on why you are going for the phd. but even more important than career options, is the problem of finances. under no circumstances should you consider going heavily into debt to pay for a masters (or a phd for that matter) at a 'prestigious' university such as nyu. if they are not funding you, do not go.
