gurumaster8899 Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 How do you determine if a school is a safety? Do you just choose a place which is low in the rankings but with similar research interests? Are there other criteria for safety school? Thank you for all you help....i really appreciate it...
frankdux Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 Yeah, basically a school that you would most likely get into, that has research you're interested in, and that you'd still be fine with attending if it was your only choice.
UnlikelyGrad Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 But keep in mind that even schools you think would be thrilled to have you--backwater no-name places with no reputation at all--may turn you down. I got into a really competitive school yet was turned down by several of my "safeties"...
Stories Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 "Safety" simply means that the school doesn't have a huge name and that you will face far less competition in applicants than a "Reach" school. So let's say: Harvard vs. Southern University and A&M. Chances are, Harvard will have 500 applicants for a program whereas SUAM will have 20. The odds of you getting into SUAM are much greater simply because of a numbers game.
