School Counseling M.Ed. track to Ed.S. or Ph.D.?

Hello all!

I have my undergrad in social science, and am pursuing a Master of Education in School Counseling.

I don't want to get too far ahead of myself, but knowing me, I'll want to pursue my education further once I achieve my M.Ed.

I would love to be a school counselor, and maybe eventually become a school psychologist. I would also love to teach adjunct, if possible.

My question is - what exactly is the different between a Ph.D. in Counseling Education and and Ed.S. in Counseling Education?

I've read that Ph.D. is more research-focused, and Ed.S. is more applied. I think I'm much more interested in applying my work rather than researching.

Are there any benefits in one over the other?

Are more jobs available in research?

Is either more valuable of a degree than the other?

Also, having my M.Ed., will that allow me to teach adjunct, or will I have to actually get licensed as a teacher?

Thank you for reading all of this!
