kp-al Posted July 15, 2009 Posted July 15, 2009 Hi I have been accepted both at TAMU and UIC for Masters in Industrial Engineering. I'm really confused about where I should go. I'm not sure if the job prospects at both colleges are similar. I know that TAMU has a very good ranking as compared to UIC but I have friends and family in Chicago and I'd be much more comfortable there. However, I'm not sure if it makes sense to give up on TAMU for UIC. Can I still get a good job if I take up UIC's offer? Pls advise.
boneh3ad Posted July 17, 2009 Posted July 17, 2009 Well since you are doing an M.S., have you looked at the faculty at both schools? You would be wise to take a look at the research going on at both places and take that into consideration as well. TAMU might be the better school, but if you can't do what you want there, then why even go there? On the other hand, if you can't get a comparably interesting research topic at UIC like you can at TAMU, then it doesn't make a lot of sense to go to UIC over it. As long as you do quality research, you should have good job prospects at either school from what I can tell. Visit both places, do the background research on the faculty, and then factor in the family angle and make your choice. I definitely understand wanting to stay near your family and where you are comfortable, but you have to keep your own career and education in mind.
