I don't think a thread exists for this topic, so I'm going to go ahread and ask. Are there any applicants or current graduate students specializing in Chican@ and/or Latin@ literature? If so, what programs are you applying to or are you attending? Thanks so much!

Thank you for making this thread!

Yes, current grad student, 2nd year, UCLA.  I work with writings going all the way back from Aztec Poetry to 21st century Chicana/o novels.

In terms of Chican@ literature, I feel like, unfortunately, it is a tale of 4 empires: Stanford, Berkeley, UCLA, Texas-Austin.  That's not to say there isn't work going on in other places, but the proximity to archives and professors in those schools sets them apart.

For east coast, I know Cornell has some good stuff going too, with some great graduate students in and around that field.

Most people studying Latino, Latin American, or Spanish literature post in the Language part of the forum. I specialize in US Latino Literature, 20th and 21st Century Latin American literature (both with a focus on women writers), Border Studies, and immigration in the United States.

If you're looking at Latin American Literature in general, look at Pittsburgh too.
