AmityDuPeuple Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 I was accepted into the Women's, Gender and Sexualities MA program at Brandeis and the Gender/Cultural Studies MA program at Simmons. I received funding from both. Thoughts?
SocJake Posted February 11, 2015 Posted February 11, 2015 My undergraduate academic and thesis adviser got his PhD in sociology at Brandeis. Fairly related fields, and as far as I understand there's some instructional overlap between departments. I imagine if you're going into that line of study you're an especially critical scholar, and while I don't know much about Simmons I can tell you Brandeis sounds like a good fit for that.
AmityDuPeuple Posted February 13, 2015 Author Posted February 13, 2015 Thanks for your thoughts! There is overlap. One of my POIs is a prof in the Sociology Department. I really want to get into a good program that will prepare me for a PhD program and will also look really good on my CV. I know names aren't everything, but they do count for something.
Noelle_BostonGrad Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 Do NOT go to Simmons. The GCS dept is. Let-down. There's no real course choice and the faculty director is totally self-absorbed. You will have way more options and funding at Brandeis.
AmityDuPeuple Posted February 17, 2015 Author Posted February 17, 2015 Do you care to elaborate? You can PM me if you would prefer.
