Facebook Gender Climate Group for Applicants

We have nine people so far.

 

The following are welcome: transgender women, CISgender women, women of all sexualities (and no sexuality), and anyone else who lives everyday life as a woman (whether publicly or in secret, and whether by choice or not). If you're interested, private message me your info and I'll add you on FB. 

 

 

This is meant to be a confidential, supportive space. Last year there was initially some argument over the value of having such a group. If you don't see the value in it, simply don't opt in. I am told that this was a wonderful experience last year, and it will be good to exchange our climate experiences, especially after campus visits.

On the contrary, it seems to me that such a group is more needed in philosophy than in any other discipline. A small addition, if I may: those who identify as members of underrepresented groups (women included) should check out the UPDirectory, if they haven't already done so.

Many of the philosophers in the directory have volunteered their contact information, and so presumably won't mind sharing information regarding the overall climate in the institutions with which they are affiliated. I imagine this will be a good resource for those trying to decide between schools.

Just wanted to say I almost broke out in applause and I'm alone in the house. It's just ridiculous that people started arguing that it wouldn't be necessary or at least useful.
