adimeh311 Posted February 16, 2015 Posted February 16, 2015 My name is Aditi and I am writing to you from Mumbai, India. I am a researcher working on a coffee table book about a patriarch of a prestigious Indian family called Seth Govindram Seksaria. Seth Govindram Seksaria was a cotton speculator and a member of the NY Cotton Exchange. He was also known as the cotton king of the world. We need some assistance for research work on New York, and I am wondering if I can reach out to interested graduates through your forum. It would be around 14 days of paid work, and the tasks involved would be the following: 1. Find what the print vehicle of the NY Cotton Exchange was in the 1930s and 1940s, and access those archives. He was bound to be mentioned there. The exchange also printed a book called the Cotton Year Book every year which contained stats on the cotton industry for the year. That might be a start. The cotton exchange had offices in WTC before 9/11. Since 2003, its headquarters and trading facility have been in the New York Mercantile Exchange Building in lower Manhattan. Visiting there will also help. 2. We need pictures of the exchange. You can get old ones from their files and click some of the current office yourself. 3. Find the Seth's reference in academic journals that you can access via your university at Jstor. I would be grateful for your help and support. Interested researchers can reach me on adi.meh@gmail.com. Many thanks, Aditi Mehta
