MSEd v.s MAT / School name v.s School program

Hey everyone! 

 

Just looking for some opinions and thoughts about the programs I've been admitted to. I've been accepted to Vanderbilt's Master of Education + Teacher Licensure Program for Elementary Ed and also Brown University's Master of Arts in Teaching program. I'm coming straight from undergrad in psychology! There are pros and cons to both:

 

Brown-

only a year (June-May)

small cohort (about 10-14 people a year)

cold (will be moving from Texas) 

in the graduate school, no education grad school

 

Vanderbilt-

Peabody is consistently ranked 1-2 each year

smoother transition from Texas

larger cohort/would probably be "just a number" not sure 

1 1/2 - 2 year program (more expensive) 

 

I'm waiting to hear back from Columbia and UPenn still, but probably won't until mid-March! Brown and Vanderbilt both want decisions by April 15 so there is some time. Although I'm unsure what type of school I'll be teaching at or even what state I'll be in after I finish the program, do you think that employers care more about the name of the school or how well known the school is (Brown being an ivy) v.s the education school itself?

As far as being well known, I think both of these places have pretty equal name recognition. Having said that, If I were you, I would pick Brown. It's shorter, so you can save money. You will get used to the cold.
