littleflower Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Hi, I want to apply to schools ranked 16 to 18 in biology or allied field(eg. University Of Chicago, University Of California, San Diego etc). My gre v=570,q=680. Is this score sufficient for those Universities? Should I retake the exam? I am an international applicant. Thank you for your help in advance.
socialcomm Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 Have you looked at the schools' websites to see if they indicate what GRE scores they're looking for? That might be a good first step. Your score seems a bit low, particularly the quant, but it may be ok for the schools you're applying to.
cclangdell Posted August 4, 2009 Posted August 4, 2009 I think Q should be near mid-700. V doesn't really matter for a science major.
Serric Posted August 5, 2009 Posted August 5, 2009 I'd take the exam again. The raw scores aren't really a big deal, but the percentile rankings are--a 580 in verbal is, I think, 80th percentile or so, but a 680 quantitative score is in the 70's or so. If you can, find the Barron's book and use the Powerprep software to help you with the exam. Learn number substitution (one of the best techniques for the exam) if you haven't already, and take every practice exam you can find.
