DanielPgz Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 Hi everyone, I'm from Mexico and seriously considering to apply to the graduate program in Social and Political Thought (SPTH) at York University in Toronto. I'd like to hear opinions of this program from students already enrolled in it. Is there anyone here with that kind of experience? My interests are: What kind of research topics do they focus in? How are the student and professor communities in general (environment)? Is it very hard to get admitted? Is it very demanding, does it require a lot of studying time? I will very much appreciate all of your responses
smallaxe Posted April 2, 2016 Posted April 2, 2016 Hi Daniel, SPTH is a well regarded program. The people in the PhD study very diverse topics, such as regional integration through arts and violence in refugee camps. It's less about what you study than how you study it. Students in the program are seen by many as being quite intimidating and intense. They know their shit and speak their minds and can quote random theorists. But that's just my experience...! From what I've heard, relationships are good. The cohorts are small. As far as admission... It's a grad program and it's quite well known. Same for the amount of work. It's a PhD program...
