CSallday Posted March 3, 2015 Posted March 3, 2015 I currently have an admissions offer for a PhD at Cornell Informatiom Science as well as a PHD offer from a few other CS programs (the highest ranking being UIUC). I am currently planning to go to Cornell, as there are a ridiculous number of professors there whose research interests match mine. I eventually want to be either a CS professor or a researcher at a big lab like Microsoft Research. Will pursuing an Information Science graduate degree rather than Computer Science hurt my career goals? This is the only reservation I have about acceptng the offer. Everything else about the program is perfect and matches exactly the type of research I want to pursue (CS applied to social sciences).

This is just what I've read other people say, but after your PhD the biggest determinant of your future seems to be the research you've done rather than the name/field on your degree, so it's good to go wherever you think will set you up to do the best research you can.
