Eminee Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 I've been accepted to BU without any funding. I'd LOVE to go, but does anyone know if there's a chance to earn funding for your second year by doing really well your first year? I have no idea how the system works, hahaha. Also, does anyone know how possible it is to take time off to work and save up between your years? If I had to guess, I'd guess schools wouldn't be a big fan of that if it wasn't absolutely necessary. I just don't know if I can afford BU right now, but, like I said, I'd LOVE so much to go there. Their program seems excellent.
scisl006 Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 I would suggest contacting the school directly and asking them about possible second year funding. From what I have heard, most schools focus their funding on first year because second year you are likely going to have at least 1 semester with an off campus practicum working 40 hours a week in which case an added assistantship might be considered too taxing. As for taking a whole year off I would say that is highly unlikely but I do know of people at other schools who have spread the program across 3 years rather than 2 so they are able to hold a job. Just depends on the school I would guess. Good luck!
Yancey Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Generally schools give the merit type scholarships the first year with admission. However, there can be opportunities for student assistantships (lab, research, clerical, etc) that you can apply for even in the second year. There also might be scholarships within or outside the school that you can apply for in your second year.
